The Lone Star Luau is held each February. It’s hosted by hit songwriters Thom Shepherd and Coley McCabe and I’ve been lucky to be part of the event since 2018.
It’s a great festival, with a concept that follows Thom & Coley’s career path. Trop Rock meets Country with a splash of Red Dirt thrown in as well. It’s basically a big house concert. Daytime entertainment features solo acts performing in a “listening” type setting, with the evenings feature full bands and a party atmosphere.
It’s an important event for me. It’s the first significant event that I ever worked outside of Pardi-Gras/Sail Away world. Having someone like Thom Shepherd give me the chance to prove myself was a big deal back in 2018.
I’m the events Stage Manager, while my partner Danielle Diaz handles the fan facing, front of house, aspects of the event. Between us we basically run the entire event. It makes for a long and exhausting weekend, but it’s also rewarding. We get to meet, and work with lots of great people!
The duties of a Stage Manager can vary from event to event. I book the artists hotel rooms at the Luau, which is something I don’t do at any other event! At some point I’ll do a post detailing everything a Stage Manager does.
The Luau got its start in Marble Falls TX, but is moving to Lake Conroe for 2022. Changing venues and locations will bring a new set of challenges for everyone involved, but I know we’re up to the task. The exact dates for February 3-6 at the Margaritaville Lake Resort. I hope you can join us!
